Pea & bacon soup

You will need:


  • 600g of petits pois (frozen is fine)

  • 1 x pack of unsmoked bacon, cut into pieces

  • 1 x onion, finely chopped

  • 1 x celery stem, finely chopped

  • 1 x clove of garlic, crushed

  • 700ml of chicken or vegetable stock

  • Salt & black pepper

  • Glug of olive oil


  • 1 x tbsp creme fraiche (optional)

  • Feta crumbled on top (optional)

  1. It’s best to use a large saucepan or casserole dish for this. Gently fry the onion and celery in the oil for about 6-8 minutes until soft.

  2. Add the garlic and the bacon and fry for 10 minutes until the bacon is cooked.

  3. Then add the stock & petits pois and bring to a simmer for 10 minutes.

  4. Using a stick blender, blend it all together until fairly smooth with no obvious lumps. You can use any type of blender of course but I find the stick type is so much easier, quicker and doesn’t require much washing up afterwards!

  5. Once blended, stir in the creme fraiche (if using) along with a good grind of black pepper. Only add salt if you think it needs some as the bacon and stock can often be salty enough.

  6. Serve with some crumbled feta cheese on top (if using) and some crusty sourdough bread on the side for dipping. Enjoy!
