Choc chip oaty biscuits

Method

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 180C or 160C for a fan oven and line a large baking tray with baking parchment.

  2. Sift the flour, vanilla powder and baking powder into a bowl then mix in the oats, sugar & chocolate chips.

  3. Melt the butter, milk & syrup in a saucepan or bowl in the microwave (microwave is easiest - about 20-30 seconds should do it. Don't boil it.)

  4. Mix all the ingredients together well.

  5. Take small pieces and roll into balls between your palms. Put each one on the baking parchment and gently squash down into round biscuit shapes. Space them apart. You should be able to make about 10-12 biscuits, depending on how big or small you want to make them.

  6. Bake for about 10 - 15 minutes in the middle of the oven, not the top. Keep an eye on them, they need to be golden brown and no darker. Remove to cool for 5 minutes, then place them on a wire rack for a further 10 minutes. Eat enthusiastically with a hot cup of tea.

You will need:

  • 75g plain flour

  • 75g porridge oats

  • 50g caster sugar

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 75g unsalted butter

  • 1 tbsp syrup (golden, maple or agave)

  • 2 tbsp milk

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla powder

  • 50g milk chocolate chips
